Good Bosses switch between Two Leadership Styles
Broadly two forms of leadership exist in the business world. One is “Dominance”, the other being “Prestige”. The former kind of leadership is one where the boss simply orders the team as to the method of working, and all are expected to get in line. In the other method, the leader influences the team through using his/her knowledge or experience, and involving others to give their own ideas. There is no one perfect, style and both have their suitability. The dominance version works best in larger teams where operational tasks are being performed. Prestige style suits best when the senior engages in talent management in order to delegate some of the duties to the rest of the team members. On the other hand, the dominant leaders are known to feel insecure with the rise of talented team members. These principles were even underlined by legendary Italian political strategist Niccolo Machiavelli.
