MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

Mindfulness has become the latest buzzword in corporate talk with endless management training sessions being planned around it. Several improvements have been attributed to mindfulness such as in- productivity, crisis management, peer relationships, project management, budget allocation and eventually promotions. However, a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania found out that this excessive focus towards mindfulness is taking the focus off other emotional intelligence traits. One of the researchers used the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory (ESCI), a talent management tool used to gauge emotional intelligence. It was thus revealed that mindfulness forges most effective leader when combined with emotional intelligence. In addition, role-playing, mind rehearsals and leadership pattern modelling are other such effective methods.
