The entire process of talent recruitment can often go very tricky. While seniors try to assess the candidates, any wrong step taken by the interviewers, can have ripple off effects. Now thanks to social media, instances have been recorded when candidates have taken to the web and blasted their potential recruiters, including the brand itself. This creates a very negative digital marketing footprint for the brand. The likes of Glass Door, Trip Advisor, Yelp and of course Twitter, are often the platforms that may evoke such a reaction. Wrong response to this negative publicity can lead to further damage. One need not respond immediately, but take one’s time. Companies and its senior leadership need to remain accountable for their actions.

Some ways have been identified that can help boost up one’s resilience to external influences. Formal corporate training sessions can to some extent help resolve this crisis. One is to increase one’s self- efficacy. Another is to tweak one’s cognitive appraisal. Physical health needs to be constantly maintained. High salary figures and free perks may help boost up the entire talent recruitment process, but post selection, there is a lot more that employees these days demand. They want a sense of purpose to define their work. The right camaraderie between the different levels also helps in many ways. Google Leadership’s development adviser enforces this point by confirming how the younger generations perceive their workplace as opposed to the baby boomers. Companies too are extremely competitive now and even fearful to attract and retain the right candidate. A lot of companies though are not responding rightly to this changed paradigm. Increasingly companies must act to limit the role of silos, and reduce the interdepartmental conflicts.

Leadership and Behaviour: Mastering the Mechanics of Reason and Emotion
Until very recently reason and emotion were considered immeasurable aspects. But now that is changing thanks to the convergence of the fields of game theory, neuroscience, economics and psychology. These aspects have a direct link with leadership and the behaviour exhibited at various workplaces. Eyal Winter, a Professor at the Hebrew University has penned down a book titled Feeling Smart: Why our Emotions are more Rational than we Think. Here, he challenges the traditional thinking towards intelligence, and how it can actually be rationally measured. Emotions can also be a powerful guide towards the decision making. That is why empathy has been such as such a important aspect for those drafting the corporate strategy. Imaging techniques can now help track the original thought behind a number of corporate decisions. Violence on a per capita basis has declined substantially over the past century or so. The contrast is even higher, as we further go back in time. Mechanism theory can be applied to explain several such phenomena.
