The Leadership Maker Movement
The technological leap is assembling together a number of DIY (Do It Yourself) tricks. It is possible from simple toys to full-scale buildings even. The greatest of business leaders from Henry Ford to Steve Jobs, all created something. But while in the industrial age, leaders made products, now in the digital age, their task is to unlock human potential. Leaders can now become makers in four related yet distinct ways. The first of them are the sense-makers, who have the ability to understand situations, and create a springboard for action. The next is meaning-maker. Such leaders excel at talent management as they can give meaning to the work their team-mates perform. Place-makers focus on the physical spaces which must be attuned to get the best creativity at work. Space-makers are leaders who let their teammates hog the limelight, while themselves stepping outside.

How Self-reflection can help Leaders stay Motivated
Rising up to leadership positions is the key motivation for several professionals entering the workforce. However, leadership is not as easy as it seems, as one needs to perform multiple roles. It is physically and emotionally draining. A manager needs to handle the budget, process a lot of paperwork and will have the final say in the talent recruitment or even firing people. Workers are also more likely to report to their managers for helping them with emotional distress, rather than to coworkers. That is why a recent report by marketing research firm Gartner found out that a mere 38% of executives or managers were engaged at work, with the percentage dropping to even lower at 29% for the middle level. A study was conducted by the Journal of Applied Psychology to understand this link. This study compared several situations before drawing any conclusion. The final verdict was that the more effective leaders are those who spend specific time on self-reflection. One very good way of doing so is to write a few lines on a diary each morning in office before starting off with work.

Don’t try to be the “Fun Boss”- and other Lessons in Ethical Leadership
After reaching the very top of one’s profession, it is a common human trait to lose all humility or even display unethical behaviour. However, on closer scrutiny it appears that many remain rooted and these are the kind of leaders, professionals prefer to have besides them. Some leadership lessons have been compiled together, starting with humility being preferred over charisma. One needs to remain steady and dependable. Modesty remains the best policy even today. While deep business analysis is a forte to be mastered, it has to be backed up by supporting action and not merely talk. One needs to remain vigilant about the aspects mentioned. This is because the vulnerability towards weaknesses gets stronger over time.
