Seasoned travelers always warn against becoming tourists. Instead they advocating being travelers. They insist that the real essence lies in living like a local. Tapping this sentiment, the tourist department of the Indian state of Maharashtra has tied up with Airbnb to provide accommodation to travelers, especially to foreign ones. Foreign travelers even more prefer to lead the life of the local. They want to sleep, cook, fish and travel like one of the people. However, infrastructure still needs to get developed which is what the state government is trying to do. This business innovation between the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and Airbnb is taking place in some villages within the Pune district such as Mulshi, Junnar, Velhe and Maval.
