Crisis: Smart Tourism Businesses Focus on Innovation
Stephen Hawking, easily considered one of the greatest scientists of the last century, had once proclaimed, how intelligence reflected in one’s ability to adapt. Businesses world- wide are having to do so, and at pace, thanks to the COVID- 19 pandemic that has hit us. Companies are increasingly making us of virtual meetings and remote work. Tools such as Microsoft Teams, Skype and Google Hangout are more in vogue than ever before. Digital marketing has become the mode of choice for marketers at every level. There will be several cultural adaptations that businesses will need to continue even after the peak of this current pandemic would have slowed down. One of them is how speed and agility will become critical, and even replace size or scale in terms of importance. Another is the adaptability to the environment, by keeping liquidity stable. A new look will need to be implemented. In order to propel business innovations forward, collaboration will need to be boosted up. Especially for tourism- based companies, digital intelligence must now be built in. This crisis in fact, offers companies the chance to explore newer opportunities.

Good Idea: Tourism Businesses show solidarity in Hard Times
The world is going through the deep COVID- 19 pandemic, with the tourism industry being no exception. The entire industry is going through hardships, but even within that broad framework, key players are trying to help out the broader cause. Hotels are being made available to the medical staff fighting this pandemic, while cruise ships are being used as hospital ships to reach those patients located in remote areas. A disaster fund has also been created by several booking sites. Switzerland has introduced a business innovation where rides may be taken up at the cost price itself. Car rental firm Hertz has been responsible for it. In Spain, a hotel has even been turned overnight in to a hostel. In Berlin, holiday apartments are now doubling up to be used as shelters for the homeless and migrant workers.

Madrid fighting UK prevalence in Film Tourism
Madrid is hoping to compete with the UK from being the most dominant player in the film tourism market. This trend has gained traction thanks to the proliferation of various TV series which account for about an eighty million tourists worldwide, as per business intelligence supplied by TCI Research. The City Council of Madrid, further adds that in 2019 alone, nearly twelve- thousand applications were received for filming spaces in the city. Barcelona too received more than eight- thousand of them in 2018. Tourism consulting firm Olsberg and Spi claims that the figure is still far away from the five million received by the town of Alnwick in UK. The town is home to the Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter series. The Spain Film Office is working to catch on this trend, with each autonomous community having an office of its own.
